Hello Fair Family and Friends,
Being part of the Fort Bend County Fair and Rodeo is an honor, and to serve as your President for 2018 is a dream come true. As a young boy, nursery rhymes and spaghetti westerns, always depicted the alluring life of farmers, ranchers, and cowboys, who readily became my everyday life heroes. Being part of the Fort Bend County Fair family was something I knew was in my future. Raising and showing animals as a teen, becoming a life member of the Fair Association, serving on various committees, and being elected to the Fair Board was my chosen path. For me, fair time is full of excitement; there is a sense of unity that one may feel during the holidays; it is pure joy. Indeed, a dream come true!
As my involvement with the fair grew, I knew the goal of giving back to our youth was being fulfilled. The relationships I have formed is why I can easily refer to these individuals as my Fair family. Having had the opportunities of working with many amazingly talented people who, in some way, have taught me many cherished life lessons in and out this arena! It is this type of bond that is so precious and critically needed for the future our community, our nation, and our world. The members of the Fort Bend County Fair Association and our valuable volunteers work in harmony and understand their actions, decisions and efforts will affect our heritage for future generations.
As an FFA member, I learned time management, dedication, and work ethic. All these qualities have been instilled in me from my showing livestock days. Now, remains the memories, the so precious memories of my days of youth and running strong throughout the fairgrounds enjoying friends and family. It was fair fun and to this day still; fair fun remains. These days are fond and tremendously memorable.
The benefits of the Fort Bend County Fair and Rodeo are wide-open for all. Our fair reflects our community, while always promoting an open door for opportunity. I want so much to help the young people of our community find ways in which they may become engaged in activities that are beneficial to them in a positive way and supports their education; it is our future. Learning the basics of agriculture promotes awareness and provides educational value for our youth. And through our scholarships, we are helping all kinds of students achieve their very own dreams. Through our auctions, the Fort Bend County Fair is making an impact on our FFA and 4H kids’ lives.
I respectfully announce my acceptance of the office of President 2018 Fort Bend County Fair and Rodeo. As I embark on this journey, I look forward to working with the Volunteers, Office Staff, Life members and Board Members in making the 2018 Fair and Rodeo a successful and memorable event, bring goodness and enjoyment to our faithful fair attendees, just as it has done for me.
Humbly and thankful,
James B. Duke
