Wine Selections Made!
The Grapes on the Brazos committee has announced the 2013 Fort
Bend County Fair wine list. The selections will delight the palate of a novice
wine taster to the keen wine connoisseur. Several Vineyards will be returning
to showcase their award winning blends, however many new Vineyards will be
making their debut at GOTB. Tracy
Davis, Committee Chairperson says, “New this year a larger variety of wine selections
will be offered in addition, Private Reserve selections will be available in
limited quantities.” As always, knowledgeable and enthusiastic
committee members will be on hand to help you make your wine selections.
This
year’s wine event will include an entertainment lineup and the serving of heavy
hors d’oeuvres provided by popular local restaurants on most days. Providing
entertainment will be Ryan Spradin on Friday, September 27th and again on
Friday, October 4th; Marc Krenek on Saturday, September 28th and Randy Meadows
on Tuesday, October 1st. Davis is quick to boast about the Grapes on the Brazos
venue, “It’s a great place to relax, enjoy and learn about wine with some
fabulous members in a cool air-conditioned environment.”
The
committee has grown to 75 members strong and strives to provide something for
everyone. Including televisions for big game viewing, beer selections for the
non-wine drinkers and meat and cheese trays for purchase.

Pinot Grigio - Italy....................................2/5/20
Creamy and smooth with lots of fresh citrus in the nose and honey, apple mouth
feel. The soft acidity and lush finish makes this pinot grigio unique and
satisfying.
Rued
Sauvignon Blanc – California.......................................3/7/30
Aromas of pear, lemon grass, grapefruit and kiwi. The acidity brightens the
ripe citrus, green apple and tropical fruit flavors. Full mouth feel with a
crisp, long finish.
McManis Viognier
– California......................................2/5/20
Pear and peach are the predominant scents with notes of flint and honey. The
wine is viscous and full in the mouth, with good balancing acidity. Flavors of
pear are most evident followed by peach in the smooth finish.
Bouchon
Chardonnay - California..................................2/5/20
A supple full-flavored Chardonnay. Bright citrus and pineapple aromas with a
soft, silky dry-yet-fruity medium body and a long, creamy finish.
Alexander Valley
Vineyards Chardonnay - California............3/7/30
Aromas of apple, pear, citrus and sugar are evident in this wine. Flavors of
apple, pear, and citrus are balanced by a touch of oak on the finish. Spicy,
yet fruity, with crisp mouth feel and a long aftertaste.

Steele Chardonnay

Aromas of mango, pineapple and papaya. Flavors of apple, pear, citrus and
tropical fruit with a hint of oak. This Chardonnay has great backbone,

The wine is well balanced with a lingering finish of sweet and creamy peach and

A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Nice
aromas of blueberry and blackberry. Rich, yet soft on the palate with silky
tannins and bright acidity. Rich, smooth vibrant finish.

Nice flavors of strawberries, cola, rhubarb, cherry and vanilla. It is soft and
silky in the mouth, yet has firm acidity. Finishes with sweet, smoky oak.
Zorzal Malbec –
Argentina.............................................3/7/30
Plum, raspberry, cassis and strawberries fill your nose. In the mouth, it feels
broad and rounded, with good volume and is nicely balanced. Finishes with leafy
notes, heavy spice and licorice.

Aromas of plum, red cherry, spice and a touch of oak and vanilla. This wine has
a round full mouth feel with jammy, ripe fruit flavors of dark fruits, cherry,
black plum and black pepper. An easy drinking wine.
Silver Stone
Cabernet Sauvignon - California........................2/5/20
Cassis, black berries and plum on the nose. Rich on the palate with flavors of
cherry and chocolate combined with sweet toasty oak. Soft tannins with spicy
notes and a long, complex finish.
